Texturologie 12: Gesture Studies (2011)
computer with Wii remotes

Texturologie 12: Gesture Studies is part of my ongoing interest in computer music with alternative controllers.
Program Note
Texturologie 12: Gesture Studies is one of my series of pieces that explore the creation of intricate continuous-field textures (and borrow the name of a series of paintings by Dubuffet). In this piece, I return to my explorations of the potential of the Wii remote to control computer music in performance. This time, I tried to treat the physical gesture as the germ or motive for the music. Some of the gestures are abstract, but some are suggestive of familiar activities like petting a cat, ringing a bell, smoothing wallpaper, playing a guiro, scooping, tapping, or vigorous stirring.
